Volunteer

Did you know there isn’t a single paid employee or member of the RPKC?  Anyone you’ve ever seen at an RPKC event is a volunteer, even all the members of the Executive Board.  We rely exclusively on help from members and supporters, and without you, Kenosha will stay blue for many years to come.

Everyone knows the Democrats don’t fight fair.  Which is why we need an army of volunteers to help combat their corruption and deceptive tactics.  Don’t wait for someone else to step up and solve the problem, we need YOU.

There are innumerable ways you can volunteer and pitch in, even if you have kids, work, or travel.  All you have is a spare hour each month?  That’s ok!  There are lots of ways to help that don’t require you to give up loads of your time.

Do door-to-door canvassing for candidates:

By far, this is the most important thing a volunteer can do. We knock on doors all over the county to make personal contact with potential voters and collect data. Data is paramount to any campaign, and many people want to be heard but don’t know anything about local elections or the candidates. People often thank us for visiting them!  This might seem like an intimidating volunteer option, but it’s actually really enjoyable and most conversations we have with people are pleasant and interesting.  You’re not there to give people a sales pitch or persuade them, just to offer information and answer questions if they have them.

As long as you’re comfortable being on your feet for an hour or two and are prepared for the weather, anyone can be a door knocker.  We provide door knockers with literature for candidates, training on how to use our tracking app, Campaign Sidekick, and we can guide you with what to say if you’re not sure.  Door knocking volunteers should always go in pairs for safety, and you can go out for just one hour or a whole weekend if you want.  It’s one of the most important and the most flexible volunteer options.  Contact us to join one of our experienced door knockers who will show you the ropes!

Become a Neighborhood Captain:

If you like the idea of contacting people personally but want to stick close to home, consider becoming a Neighborhood Captain.  Neighborhood Captains volunteer to knock doors in their own neighborhoods or make phone calls to neighbors to remind people of upcoming elections and educate them about the candidates who are running.

You don’t need to do anything special to become a Neighborhood Captain, just start chatting with your neighbors!  Let us know if you’d like to adopt the role for your neighborhood.

Write Letters to the Editor:

One way to generate discussion in the community and voice your support or opposition for an issue or candidate is to write a Letter to the Editor (LTE). The Kenosha News accepts submissions from any citizen of the county.  LTEs are typically short and sweet (or salty!), and are written to inform readers, create interest, or advocate for particular positions or election candidates. The RPKC also promotes relevant letters on social media to reach a larger audience.  Optics are a complex matter in politics, but this is just one more way we can inform the public about important issues, dispel lies, and garner support.

You are welcome to submit any comments and opinions you have directly to the Kenosha News, but if you’re not sure what to write or where to start, contact us and the RPKC can help.

Join an ad hoc committee:

The RPKC often creates new committees to fill short-term or specific needs, and those committees need volunteers to help facilitate their tasks.  For example, we always welcome volunteers for the Election Integrity committee, which needs volunteers to make phone calls, recruit poll workers and poll observers, and help to organize election volunteers.  Or perhaps you’d be interested in working with our Parade Float Committee, which brainstorms theme ideas for the summer parade season and then assess how to construct that vision in float form.  We also have a Candidate Recruitment Committee which focuses on finding conservative citizens who may be interested in running for office.

There is always something interesting going on in the RPKC—if you’re looking for something more project-based or like the idea of volunteering in a way that utilizes your unique skills, ask us which ad hoc committees have open spots for volunteers right now.

Staff the RPKC Victory Center:

During the fall election season and if finances allow, the RPKC rents a space to act as our “home base” in support of Republican candidates.  We call it the Victory Center, and it’s a place where the public can come to register to vote, purchase merchandise, get answers to their questions about events and voting, sign up as a member with the RPKC, etc.

We need volunteers willing to be cashiers, restock merchandise, help folks with paperwork, and generally be a helping hand during the hours the Victory Center is open.  Hours are flexible, we’ll show you what to do, and we try to accommodate everyone’s schedule as much as we can.  The Victory Center is generally open from June-November in even election years.

Deliver/set up yard and field signs:

Yard signs are a big part of every campaign, but ensuring that everyone who wants to support a candidate can get one is a tough task, especially when our Victory Center is not open. We need volunteers to store signs and deliver them to locations that have agreed to put them up. If you’re not afraid of a little manual labor, we also need strong people to help us with placing field signs, which are much larger and require a post pounder to be put up. We also always appreciate help in scouting locations for signs and asking for permission from the land owners to put them up.

Keep in mind that, unfortunately, sign theft and vandalism is common in Kenosha County. So ensuring that our signs not only get placed but stay in place as well is sometimes a battle. If you’re interested in helping flood Kenosha County with Republican yard signs, we’d love to talk with you!

Host an event at your business:

Do you own a business with meeting space, food service, or other amenities that could be used to host events? If so, we’re always looking for locations to host events like fundraisers, candidate meet-and-greets, executive board meetings, and others.

If you’d like to offer your business or have an idea for an event, contact us!

Walk with the RPKC in summer parades:

Parade season is a busy time for the RPKC! We have a float every year and often participate in 5-8 parades every summer.  We need volunteers to walk with the float and pass out candy in the parades, as well as drivers. It’s a fun way to volunteer and get some outside exercise during the summer. Most parades are a half-day time commitment.

If you’re interested in joining us for a parade, contact us and we’ll let you know which parades we’ll be participating in near you. Many people drive around the county and walk in all the parades with us!

Help build the RPKC parade float:

Do you have construction, engineering, or mechanical skills you’d like to share? You can help us build a parade float for the summer parade season! We have a new theme every year for our parade float, and we need skilled, creative volunteers to help us figure out how to make that theme come alive in parade float form.

We usually begin construction in April/May each year. If you’d like to volunteer to help construct a float, contact us and we’ll get you in touch with the Parade Float Committee.

Send out text blasts:

There is no easier way to volunteer than to help with text blasts. The RPKC sends out reminder texts to voters before an election. We need volunteers who have a few afternoon or evening hours to push a button repeatedly. That’s it. The texts are sent through an automated system and are not connected to your phone number or personal information in any way, and text responses will not go to you. You can log in to the system on your phone or through a laptop and push the button all evening while you watch TV.

Depending on the election, we often are sending out 50,000-100,000 texts in an evening, so we need all the volunteers we can get!  Contact us if you’re interested in helping with text blasts.

Complete data entry:

Do you have experience with spreadsheets or other data organization methods? We’re often looking for volunteers to input data from events, such as member sign-ins, donation amounts, etc. It’s easy and can be done from anywhere.

If you have an hour or two to spare for data entry, contact us! We’ll let you know when we have information that needs processing.

Organize and assist RPKC events:

The RPKC organizes picnics, fundraisers, campaign events, parades, and much more. With so many events to conduct every year, we’re always looking for volunteers to help with things like set up and tear down, member sign-in, food service, booth staffing, material transportation, and more. If you’re already planning on attending an event, why not come an hour early or stay an hour after to pitch in? We’d appreciate it!

Contact us if you’re interested in helping out with events. We’ll let you know what’s coming up and where we could use an extra hand.

Other/Special Interest:

Are you an excellent cook and want to make something special for the Harvest Fest? Maybe you’re an IT wiz who can help us with website maintenance? Or perhaps you’re a graphic designer willing to donate some time for literature design? Whatever your specialty, we want to know about it! We always appreciate volunteers who have special expertise and can find creative ways to use it to support the conservative cause.

Whatever your skill set or ideas, we want to hear about them.  Contact us today!

Write Letters to the Editor:

The Kenosha News accepts submissions from any citizen of the county.  LTEs are typically short and sweet (or salty!), and are written to inform readers, create interest, or advocate for particular positions or election candidates. Make phone calls:

Like to chat and have a nice phone voice? The RPKC is often in need of volunteers to call voters to remind them to vote, to gather information, or to promote a particular candidate’s campaign. It’s not difficult and easy to fit into your schedule—even committing to just five phone calls a day makes a difference! A written script is typically provided to help guide you in what to say.

If you’re interested in helping us with phone calls, let us know!

Become a paid Republican poll worker:

Having representation of both Republican and Democrat poll workers in every polling location is specifically written into state statutes and is one of the most effective ways to ensure the integrity of Wisconsin’s elections. Poll workers (also known as Election Inspectors) are trained and paid by their local municipalities to register voters, issue ballots on election day, monitor voting equipment, explain the balloting process and voting equipment to voters on election day, assist with ballot counting, and help ensure all election laws are followed by everyone.  The RPKC assists in recruiting and organizing poll workers for elections, and nominates poll workers every two years.

Even though this is the best way to directly ensure there is accountability in your local election locations, we sadly often have a significant amount of drop-outs or no-shows.  This means election locations may be packed full of Democrat poll workers and only 1-2 Republicans.  For this reason, we only want volunteers who are serious about election integrity and who are committed to working the polls. Each municipality decides on its own scheduling, so your hours and days may vary from place to place. Don’t worry if you’ve never done it before, you’ll be trained by the municipality and shown what to do. Contact us today if you’d like to make a huge difference and work the polls!

Become a Republican poll observer:

Unlike poll workers, poll observers (also known as Election Observers) are unpaid and do not directly engage with voters or the voting process. Instead, they observe and elevate issues they see to the Chief Election Inspector at their polling location, the local clerk, and/or a specific candidate’s campaign or party. Poll observers can observe inside or outside polling locations, at count facilities, or even at a recount. They often see things that the poll workers do not and are critical to the process. Poll observing also offers more flexibility in shifts and hours.

If you’re interested in being directly involved with our municipal and county elections but want to learn more about elections first or need more flexibility, being a poll observer is a great option. You can play a crucial role in ensuring our elections are being run lawfully and honestly, and there is training available before every election so you won’t be going in unprepared.
